Your Shane Scully novels are full of police procedure and inside cop lingo, how do you research your books?

One of the things that I want to do when I’m writing a novel is to make it as realistic as possible. Back when I was writing television shows, I’d research police procedure and how detectives did things.  I do the same for my novels.  It helps make the story ring true. Readers will buy into fiction if it sounds plausible and one of the ways to make it sound plausible is to get the real-life protocol down.  My assistant Kathy helps me do research and the LAPD has been helpful.
